Possible Bridesmaid Gifts…

I was given this “set” by my sweetheart. Its two little silver dragons flanked by glass beads on a silver tube chain. Unfortunately I have no idea who the designer is…
I think I may give something like this to my bridesmaids as thank you gifts next year. I think I may give them a silver bracelet “tube” chain, with a red bead and a purple bead- for my wedding colours- and a silver one or two inbetween.

If you fancy the idea for yourself, there are a few places you can get the beads. The original and most exquisite beads are Trollbeads of course… but they’re rather costly! You could also consider the beautifully detailed SilveRado beads- which are also imported, or those made by a local designer- Donna Mia!
I have a bracelet with a couple of Donna Mia beads on it, which I would like to add to over time- like the charm bracelets a lot of women wear. The one bonus with the beads going over the bracelet chain is that there’s less likelihood of losing them!
And if you keep your eyes open though, you can find beautiful “substitutes” in a lot of jewellery stores.

How’s This For Making An Entrance!!!

Sandton Sun Wedding Expo

From July 29th to August 3rd 2009, there’s a Bridal Expo at the Sandton Sun!

The Music Thing…

Glugs and I are currently making a list of songs and bands/ singers that we do NOT want to hear at our wedding.
Originally, we were thinking of hiring a big band for the night, a’la Glenn Miller, but they are not only hard to find- space at the venue would also be an issue… so we’ll probably go with a “DJ” of some sort.

The music and the dancing is VERY important to both of us, so this is a big part of our planning process.

Luckily we have such wide and varied music tastes between the two of us that there’s a lot we like- compiling a list though, would be all but impossible. So we decided to make a list of what we don’t like instead, and we’ll give whoever handles the music strict instructions NOT to play anything off this list- even if its requested.

So far the performer’s list includes Rod Stewart, Roxette, Mandoza, Johnny Clegg, The Village People and Las Ketchup.

The song list has on it: “Bed Of Roses“, “Macarena“, the chicken dance, “Cotton-Eyed Joe” and “Zorba the Greek“.

Can you think of anything else…?

We’re also not having anyone sing at our wedding.
Under any circumstances.
Its something that doesn’t appeal to either of us, so its a definite no-no.

Wedding Gifts

Because Glugs and I are living together after merging our two households, we’re both in our thirties and both gainfully employed… we have decided to forego traditional wedding gifts, and go a different route.
We attended a wedding last year in October- the very formal one that I was so excited about finding a dress for- and the couple who wed that day had registered with the World Wildlife Fund to cover the “eco-footprint” that their wedding would make on the world. You made a donation to the WWF in the couple’s name, with the details provided on the invitation.
Glugs and I have decided to go a similar route.
We haven’t chosen specific charities yet, but I think we’re going to choose one each- for causes that are close to our hearts- and request that people make a donation to these charities in lieu of a gift for us.
