Choosing Your Wedding Colour Scheme

…is not nearly as cut and dried as you may think!

There are many brides like me, who know fairly early on what colours they want, and once they’ve picked them, they stick with that colour scheme. But a lot of brides do not know what colour scheme they’d like until it comes to picking out invitations or until they find a venue! And some brides change their minds several times throughout the planning process!

I’ve chosen the red and purple scheme for mhy wedding next July.
Its rich and smacks of the East, and it will be perfectly complimented by the paisley theme I’ve chosen. And I will certainly not be changing my mind.

But here’s the dilemma faced by many people when they choose a colour. No one sees colours the same way!
For me, the red is easy enough for people to imagine. Most people see “red” or “red2″ as it is on the chart below. But the purple… is another story.

Do you see what I mean?
Everyone has a different idea of purple! For me, when I say I want purple in my wedding colour scheme, I see something like “wild violet” or “darkviolet” in my minds eye. Something not too pink and not too blue. I won’t mind having several shades of purple in amongst the flowers and fabrics at the end of the day, but when I say my colour scheme has purple in it- “wild violet” is what I imagine.

So when you choose a colour scheme, be sure to be specific when explaining the colour you want to your decorator, baker, seamstress, florist, etc… Imagine how upset you’ll be if you ask for purple, imagining “purple3″ as it is on the chart above, and your seamstress makes your bridesmaids dresses with a “grape” fabric!

We Picked A Theme!!!

AnGlugWedding now not only has a colour scheme- the red and purple- and a “theme”!!

I have always loved paisley. I had paisley clothing when I was younger and several art projects had paisley in them somewhere. Then at the wedding expo on Sunday we saw one or two items with the pattern on it- and my dilemma was solved!
We’ll be able to use it in SOOOO many ways!!!
And- brace yourselves bunnies- we most likely won’t be having any cupcakes at AnGlugWedding…
I know!!
Shock!
Horror!
How could the “Cupcake Queen” NOT be having cupcakes at her own wedding!?!??!
Well, a friend has already called dibs on a cupcake wedding- much like someone else I know has called dibs on a peacock theme and colour scheme, and like I did on my colour scheme and now on the paisley… so there’ll be no cupcakes!
But no worries- I am planning plenty of fabulousness!!!

Possible Bridesmaid Gifts…

I was given this “set” by my sweetheart. Its two little silver dragons flanked by glass beads on a silver tube chain. Unfortunately I have no idea who the designer is…
I think I may give something like this to my bridesmaids as thank you gifts next year. I think I may give them a silver bracelet “tube” chain, with a red bead and a purple bead- for my wedding colours- and a silver one or two inbetween.

If you fancy the idea for yourself, there are a few places you can get the beads. The original and most exquisite beads are Trollbeads of course… but they’re rather costly! You could also consider the beautifully detailed SilveRado beads- which are also imported, or those made by a local designer- Donna Mia!
I have a bracelet with a couple of Donna Mia beads on it, which I would like to add to over time- like the charm bracelets a lot of women wear. The one bonus with the beads going over the bracelet chain is that there’s less likelihood of losing them!
And if you keep your eyes open though, you can find beautiful “substitutes” in a lot of jewellery stores.

Our Wedding

We’ve decided on a winter wedding for 2010. This gives me plenty of time to lose weight- though I have to stop telling myself that, because soon I won’t have a lot of time.

I have asked the knucklehead to be my best man at our wedding, though I am still deciding on bridesmaids… See, in the ideas I’ve always had for my own wedding- I never had bridesmaids.
My Glugster will most likely ask his bestest best friend of forever to be his best man.
We’ve decided to limit the guest list to people we actually know and love and see or speak to on a regular basis. So there are most likely going to be a few noses out of joint over people we aren’t inviting (and being family doesn’t mean you automatically qualify).

Our colour scheme remains red and purple, and its not likely to change- neither is the date we’ve chosen, unless I get pregnant late this year… I really don’t want a baby-bump in my wedding pictures.

Park Lane Jewels is making my ring, which is simply stunning and I can’t wait to see it finished. I have not yet seen the stone my Glugs chose- because I told him I didn’t want to see it till the ring is finished and he asks me to marry him. That way I still have lots of suprises!

I am REALLY hoping to be able to ask Christa B to do my wedding dress. For as long as I can remember she’s been one of my favourite South African designers, and her sense of style is just so unique.

We have also decided to go with a wedding album compiled into what looks like a coffee table book or a magazine. You can see examples here and here.

We have also asked the fabulous Jeanette Verster to be our photographer. For Glugs and I this was a no-brainer. As much as I love my daddy darling’s wedding photography ability, I don’t want him to be working throughout the wedding, and wedding photography is a big job.

We’ve visited seven different venues over the last month or so- and strangely enough, the biggest problem we’ve had so far is finding one that can cater for a big-ish wedding. Its not like we’re inviting 400 people or anything, but most of the places we’ve seen can comfortably handle about 80 people. Without a dancefloor. And a dancefloor of a decent size is imperative. Some of the places that are too small suggest we do it outside. In winter. Come on people! If I’ve already told you I don’t want an outdoor wedding- then don’t suggest it!
We’ve found 1 venue that scores a 9 on our ranking list, the only one thus far… but we have not entirely given up on looking for our perfect 10.

Thats it for now.

We are having SOOO much fun with all of this!

Planning Our Wedding!!!

Yup!
I am indeed!
We’re working on a guestlist, we’ve set a budget, and we’ve started looking at venues.
My mom thinks its hysterical that I am starting to plan our wedding before Glugs and I are even engaged, but I’ve never exactly stuck to the traditional sequence of things have I…?We know we want to get married and we will be getting engaged, but I don’t want to wait till we only have a few months before we start planning.
We’ve even chosen a colour scheme!
How exquisite is this!!??!?

RED and PURPLE

The wedding expo we went to was so much fun! I actually suprised myself with the dresses that made me gasp when they were on the catwalk… not exactly what I thought I would like for myself. These designs belong to Ricca Dee and F.Wilson.
There were several tables at the expo decorated with a particular theme, and there were cakes and flowers as well as gowns on display! There were companies who specialise in organising honeymoons, there were boudoir photography demonstrations, fashion shows for the designers, jewellery makers, photographers, hair stylists, makeup artists, stationery designers and companies who organise music.
We also looked at the expo venue as a possible venue for us- but I was unimpressed by the gardens and I think its too small for us- though their reception hall is lovely.
We have since visited 3 other venues, and we’ve decided on a rating scale for them!
Diep in die Berg scored a 6/10- I think its too small, I don’t like the stairs to the chapel, the gardens not as nice as I’d like and the chapel isn’t very pretty.
River Meadow Manor scored 8- its stunning but may be too small.
Her Majesty’s scored 7 (big, great hall, but a little too rustic for us) and Villa Tuscana a 2. Why a 2? Their fake rock look and over the top kitsch style was just too much…We have appointments to see 3 more by early July.

My darling Glugster also bought me the Bride’s Diary, which is a handy and attractive hardcover reference for everything you could need- as well as making a nice keepsake. Its already stuffed full of cards and pamphlets!

Oh, and the date we’ve chosen? Will only be announced closer to the time.

Ooh I am SO excited!!!
